Conversations with Calum Maxwell - Leadership Consultant & Executive Coach
A few months ago as I was heading to a Club Vivanova charity event in Monaco and I found myself engaged in a familiar inner dialogue.
“Why am I going here when I don’t know anyone?”
“What have I got to offer of interest and will anyone want to hear it?”
We all know this inner voice, at times so energising and encouraging and yet at others so critical and pessimistic.
Being an executive coach, this inner chatter no longer phases me because I have learned how to use it. Conversations even with ourselves and others can be transformative in the most wonderful way.
As renowned executive coach Susan Scott writes in her best-selling book Fierce Conversations, constructive communication has the potential to be a game changer.
She wrote: “Whilst no conversation is guaranteed to change the trajectory of a career, a company, a relationship or a life ... any conversation can.”
The Club Vivanova event was of course great, full of interesting people with diverse perspectives and we talked about all sorts of subjects from wine to engineering.
I have since met three of the attendees for coffee which has been fun.
