Founded in 1992 in Zurich, Switzerland as a small family-owned business between Iwan Wirth, Manuela Wirth and Ursula Hauser the art house ‘Hauser & Wirth’ collecting and exhibiting exceptional forms of Modern Art has expanded over the past 30 years by opening its on galleries in one of the most lavish and glamorous locations such as Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, New York and now the Principality of Monaco.
‘Hauser & Wirth’ house has built a reputation for its dedication to artists and support of visionary artistic projects worldwide. This 19th of June the Art house is delighted to announce its exceptional exhibition and private viewing space right at the glory heart of the Principality of Monaco – Monte-Carlo. The ‘Louise Bourgeois. Malade de l’Amour’ exhibition will include a monumental public sculpture from the French American artist’s Spider series, a bronze arachnid over three meters tall which will be placed in the beautiful gardens in front of the Casino de Monte-Carlo next to the gallery.
Located near the historic Hotel de Paris, the new gallery will feature a spectacular main exhibition space of 290 sq. m. cube with 9-meter-high walls, lit from above by a dramatic skylight. The conversion of the site has been conducted by Selldorf Architects, New York with whom ‘Hauser & Wirth’ house successfully collaborated for previous international exhibitions. In Monaco, the gallery will occupy the lower spaces of a building designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners and owned by Société de Bains de Mer.
‘Hauser & Wirth’ representatives share their thoughts towards the future exhibition as an exceptional opportunity to present their artists in the heart of a city like Monaco, engaging with the vibrant contemporary scene across the French Riviera, and strengthening their European presence.
The works part of the inaugural exhibition by Louise Bourgeois will span a period between 1947-2008. Along with Bourgeois monumental Spider sculpture dating from 1996, one of the artist’s most enduring and iconic motifs, two further aluminium sculptures are suspended inside the gallery and many more. Spectacular euphoria of emotions represented towards Bourgeois’ personal visual vocabulary will flourish at the heart of the Principality this summer season and it should not be missed!
