Tourist train shuttles to Limone from Tende (only 65 km from Monaco, and with a large free parking space in front of the train station) are scheduled to begin on December 10th and run from Tende to Limone and return 12 times per day (currently first train is scheduled to run at 08.40 in the morning (last run at 17.54) from Tende to Limone, with the last return from Limone at 17.00). Always check updated timetable on-line.

One thing is certain, with all the fabulous marvels that await you in Limone this winter, the journey is going to be worth it.

What was the driving force and initiative behind your decision to set-up Global Environment Media?

About three years ago it became apparent that when looking into information available online and offline there was such an abundance of conflicting information and unsubstantiated information. It was at this point we all recognised that our environment is a monumental concern to all of us and we could actually do something about it through media. This is when we decided to consolidate and unite as many foundations institutes and NGOs as possible and bring their information into a hub and use a mixed media architecture to deliver the information for easy digestion.

How is the GEMA Foundation related to GEM?

Global Environment Movement Association was created to help in the production and diffusion of information and content in support of all our partners. The GEM platform is one of the diffusion outlets of which the production content created could be diffused and digested by all our subscribers and viewers. As a TV channel GEM will be diffused globally over all platforms to have the largest coverage area.

How can locals and businesses in the Monaco / French Riviera region and across Europe help the growth and development of GEM?

GEM is run as a media platform and as such we partner with companies that are environmental in their approach and have sustainability as a focus moving forward. They show their support by having a presence on our platform and channel and in turn we are able to show their good efforts in moving forward responsibly.

What are the challenges you face in charitable funding for the GEMA Foundation and how are you dealing with that?

Due to recent world events raising money and attention for environment is key but yet as a media company we have had a blow due to the tightening of budget this year. Raising donations for GEMA has been challenging and I believe the tides are turning as we come out of this pandemic. Word of mouth media and social media play a big role in obtaining donations.

Lastly, your father was an avid supporter of numerous charities and foundations, in which sector was he mostly connected with and why?

My father was an advocate for children and as ambassador for UNICEF he spent the better part of 25 years raising awareness and monies for such charities. It was through him that I developed a strong desire and need to be socially responsible in all my actions and businesses. There is nothing more noble then advocating for those who cannot for themselves. From children to animals to our environment as a whole - if you are able to To do something to help and you must.

This annual black-tie gala begins at 7pm with an elegant Premier Cru Champagne cocktail, followed by a four-course gourmet wine dinner, a unique fashion show with ALTER Design by Pauline Ducruet (daughter of H.S.H. Why There is No Need to Get Sun-Burnt!

No matter how good it feels, too much sunbathing can cause an inflammatory response from the skin or likewise an allergic reaction to the skin.

Tanned skin conjures up a picture of relaxing holidays, fitness and health. If we stay too long in the sun, we risk getting sunburnt. Even if it is cloudy, we can get burnt if we stay unprotected in, on or near water for a long time. Water reflects and intensifies the radiation. Light-skinned people (whose skin has fewer pigments and therefore less self-protection) are more at risk than dark-skinned people (whose skin contains more pigments).

The time of day when we sunbathe also plays a role: The shorter UVB rays can severely damage skin cells and are strongest from 10 am to 2 pm. The UVA rays in the early morning and late evening are much more skin-friendly and ensure a slower but gentler tanning of the skin.

Increase self-protection and support healing 🌞
Despite being careful - you sometimes get sunburnt. In the case of a mild sunburn, it is usually sufficient to cool the affected area with a cold compress. Applying aloe vera gel or a very thin layer of essential lavender oil can also bring relief. Wearing airy, light clothing can protect the sunburnt areas on the body.

Foods rich in niacin can promote the healing process if the skin has already been damaged. Vitamin B3 (niacin) also helps to build up the body's own skin protection factors and can therefore help to prevent sunburn.

It is found in soja products, green beans and peas, in mushrooms, cabbage, potatoes and peaches.

Cortisol, an anti-inflammatory agent, is produced in the adrenal glands with the help of vitamin C and unsaturated fatty acids. Therefore, after sunbathing you should eat lots of fresh fruit, corn, olives, beans and seeds.
Secondary plant substances such as lycopene (found in tomatoes, watermelons, rosehips, citrus fruits etc.) and beta-carotene (found in carrots, apricots, peaches, mangoes, spinach, chard and lamb's lettuce) also have the ability to protect the skin from sunburn. Not only do they mop up free radicals from UV rays, but they prolong the skin's natural defence mechanism.
In fact, eating foods rich in essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants can enhance sun protection from within.

However, these natural photoprotective agents should not be viewed as an alternative to sunscreen from sprays and creams.

Unprotected sun exposure will inevitably lead to premature skin aging. Long term effects of repetitive sunburn will only increase this process. Prevention is the best remedy for sunburn.

Somewhere in My Heart - Calum Maxwell - Leadership Consultant & Executive Coach

Tom Jones is in Nice this week as part of the Jazz Festival and it was great to see and hear the great singer blast out his songs at the age of 83.  It got me thinking about something that happened recently while driving down to visit my hometown in Southwest Scotland.   The song, Somewhere in My Heart by Aztec Camera came up on my playlist.   I turned the volume up LOUD. I was taken right back to being 18 again. A wave of happiness came upon me like it was yesterday!  Thirty years later I still felt the joy, excitement, and the confidence of that moment. 

This was a time of change in my life back then.  My mother and I left the family home to escape my alcoholic father, I was the first in my family to be going to university in autumn of 1989 and more importantly I passed my driving test!  Life was great and I was ready for anything. That summer was a turning point in my life and the music playing reminded me of my resilience and ability to deal with all the challenges I had faced growing up.   

Confidence, resilience, and self-belief are at the heart of personal success but as we all know there are times in life when we don’t feel that way. Those are the times in our lives where we must pull upon our strengths to face adversity or make a change.  We often forget this when dealing with new challenges, the unexpected or when events aren’t turning out the way we had hoped.  Music is a really good way to start conversations about positive times in our lives.  It might be the tune or it might be the lyrics… it’s always the tune for me!   

Change is dependent on your mindset, your strengths and resilience.   This is where I start when working with new clients.    It’s so important to reflect on and explore the strengths we they have pulled upon during our lived experience.  Your experiences can be at the foundation of your future success.  The power of my coaching technique is that it is builds on the best of my clients, their strengths, their experiences and ultimately their actions.   Music comes into my work frequently and I find it a great way to start a conversation, evoke memories and as I said, remember times of strength, happiness, and success.  These feelings are real, tangible, and helpful. 

One of my current client’s (an award-winning and successful journalist) favourite and motivational song is ‘Gonna Fly Now’, the theme tune from the Rocky film series.  This tune was significant for my client as it was a time when she was learning her craft as a young journalist and very much in a ‘learning zone’ as she began her career.  She didn’t know it all, she wasn’t always confident but she made it to the top of her profession by using her skills and strengths.  These lyrics are particularly relevant to her because for the last few months she has been working on overcoming her fear of public speaking.  We revisited these strengths as part of my bespoke coaching programme. She has the words, she has the subject knowledge, she has attention to detail, but what she has done is work with me to identify the fears about speaking, understand and reframe them whilst building on all her strengths to become a confident speaker and presenter.  

As her motivation music blasts out ‘trying hard now, getting strong now, gonna fly now, flying high now’ it reflects on what she has done in taking positive steps to improve.  Just as it was in the past, this music now reminds her of her current success in making significant improvements as part our coaching work.  I have suggested that she blasts this tune out on her arrival on stage when she speaks publicly but she’s not quite up for that!
