Savills Monaco and French Riviera Sponsor the First Good Life Wellness Day Event in Monaco

The first inaugural ‘Good Life’ wellness day event took place at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel in Monaco, with a waitlist the same size as the list of 94 attendees that were lucky enough to secure themselves a spot. Savills Monaco and French Riviera saw the sponsorship of this event as a great way to vocally show how the company supports wellness both in the workplace and within the home and also as a way to support an event helping the local community.

The day was hosted by Gavin Sharpe of Riviera Wellbeing, a local therapy centre and Dufflyn Lammers an addiction and relationship coach, originally from the USA but now living in Paris. From the off the event was fun and lively, with high levels of audience participation which reflected the good rapport the hosts had with the attendees.

Throughout the day there were various lectures on wellness areas such as discovering your authentic self, your relationship with money, love and problem behaviours. There was also an incredible workshop which developed a sense of self-awareness.

The cherry on top of the cake was that all proceeds of the event were dedicated to Child CARE Monaco. Money that will be used for new projects they are developing in south India.

How Can Private Tuition Help Your Child Achieve The Grades Needed To Apply To The Best Schools

We are seeing an increase in the number of our families requesting a full-time private tutor, governor, or governess. The feedback: a lack of confidence with standards in school education, especially since the covid pandemic closed schools across the globe, and an attempt by families to expose their children to the global knowledge economy, to give them an edge and ensure that they can compete for coveted places at top schools.

So with this in mind, how can a private tutor, governor, or governess work with your child to help them achieve their very best results and reach the outcome required?

One-on-One Attention

A private tutor, governor, or governess can develop and create lesson plans based on the specific needs and age of your child. They can match your children’s personalities and learning styles and give them the confidence to learn something that they find difficult in a typical classroom-stye environment. The school system tends to have large classes, and even where there are limits on numbers in each class, shy children are often in danger of being overlooked and left behind as they concentrate on the needs of the average student in the class. Where teachers don’t have time to provide the attention a child needs, and the longer this goes on, the more unlikely it becomes that the child will be able to catch up which can have a devastating effect on their self-esteem. A well-chosen one-on-one private educator has the luxury of being able to go back to the beginning, filling gaps in the knowledge and ensuring the child understands the topic and can apply the concepts and possibly even exceed the required standard.

Flexibility To Study Anything, Anywhere and Everywhere

Many of our families have busy schedules and like their families to travel with them around the world spending weeks to months in various countries. As this can be disruptive to a child’s schooling, a private tutor, governor or governess is able to travel with you on family vacations and business trips so that your child doesn’t miss key learning stages at school. A private educator will establish a daily educational plan and routine that allows for one-to-one instruction, learning activities and outings, preparing for tests and exams, and time to write assignments and Essays; fitting all this around the family’s obligations, downtime, and schedule. One of our tutors would regularly deliver lessons on the family’s private jet using the time efficiently so that on arrival the child could indulge in other more engaging pursuits. Additionally, to aid learning, a private tutor, governor or governess might choose to teach specific subjects on specific days. For example, maths and science on Mondays, languages on Tuesdays, art and music on Wednesdays with Friday dedicated to outdoor learning each week.

Learning More Than the Syllabus

A private tutor, governor, or governess teaches a wide variety of subjects in more depth than core curriculums usually require. For example, a bilingual educator will be able to deliver lessons in more than one language. Where your family regularly interacts with different cultures it might be important to you for the educator to teach proper etiquette, culture and customs, a code of conduct, and manners. In pursuit of top colleges, an accomplished, highly educated tutor, governor, or governess can often teach more than the information required by the curriculum and may be able to provide a wider viewpoint for study that allows a student to garner a deeper understanding not only of the core subject, but also the wider issues that impact the subject. Private tutors are also able to teach study skills and how to plan and organise your revision timetable, they can show a child how to best manage their time and prioritize tasks in exams and whilst studying. These life skills are valuable lessons that the child will be able to use throughout adulthood.

Goals and Objective Setting for Your Child’s Future

A private educator can help you set objectives in line with your and your child’s goals, aspirations, personality, and interests. Not all children know what they want to be when they grow up and a private tutor, governor, or governess can act as a coach, encouraging the child to explore their interests. Their focus on educational attainment alongside consistent praise, encouragement, and feedback can instill confidence in your child which will allow you and them to choose the right schools and colleges and be better prepared for entrance exams and often achieve higher results than their peers in traditional schools. A private tutor, governor, or governess can also support you in preparing your child for adulthood byimparting valuable life skills that they may not get exposed to in traditional educational systems.

Is your child struggling? Things to look out for:

Even if your child does attend an educational establishment, they may still benefit from having a private tutor, governor, or governess who will work closely with a student who has fallen behind or has learning difficulties. A child who might benefit from one-on-one attention might have:

•               Consistently poor or falling grades

•               Detentions for homework not completed

•               Not enjoying school

•               Stress or anxiety about school, friends, or grades

•               Difficulties with age-appropriate core skills such as reading, writing, or maths.

•               Diagnosed learning difficulties.

•               Not wanting to attend school

Vivanova People - An Interview with our Club Partner Katerina Pirelli-Zucchetta - Saving the Borneo Pygmy Elephants

Often seen networking at our international events, the beautiful and charismatic Kat Pirelli-Zucchetta is dedicated to saving the Borneo Pygmy Elephants. Our Club Vivanova Intern Deniza Marcinkeviciute from the International University of Monaco spent some time with Kat to find out more about the passion and the drive behind this charitable effort and the Borneo Wildlife Preservation.

Book online for the Enchanted Forest Charity Dinner - Fairmont Monte Carlo
Saturday 18th June 2022 . 7.30pm

When and where was the first time you saw and interacted with a Borneo Pygmy elephant? What effect did it have on you?

I first heard about Bornean Pygmy Elephants about 20 years ago when I was working with elephants in Africa.  They came up in a simple conversation and it was at that time that I became intrigued to learn more about them.  I began watching David Attenborough documentaries and began my own research on the most biodiverse island in the world in which they live, Borneo.

Over the years I noticed that this species of elephant was continuing to decline in numbers due to habitat loss and human-elephant conflict.  Currently, there are less than 1000 surviving in the rainforests.  It wasn’t until 2014 that I had the opportunity to travel to the island of Borneo and observe them in their natural habitat.

The first time I saw these small elephants they were feeding on grass along the Kinabatangan River, I felt so fortunate to see so many of them as oftentimes you can look for days and not find any. That first day was also very profound as I witnessed human-elephant conflict and realized what these elephants endure daily. I felt so much compassion for them that I knew this was where my future work would be focused.  Hence I started a 501(c)(3) public charity in the United States and shortly after France.

Could you describe in a few sentences what is your daily routine with the Borneo Wildlife preservation and the effort that it requires?

These days there are many non-profit charity organizations and obtaining grants and donations has become increasingly difficult.  We focus a lot of effort on social media fundraising but also, I feel it important to maintain a good working relationship with positive daily communication with my team and conservation partners in Borneo. I am also a part of an international elephant network where we share sustainable solutions for conservation, protection, husbandry training, and environmental issues.  Currently, there are 22 elephants in human care in Borneo and Borneo Wildlife Preservation works to ensure all these elephants’ basic needs are met.

As we work in Borneo twice a year, I coordinate with other professionals to bring inspiring presentations, demonstrations, education, and elephant care to the locals.  We work directly with the local students and elephant handlers.

Do you take care of elephants all around the world or only in the Asian continent?

We only focus our efforts to take care of these elephants which are exclusive to the island of Borneo.  They are an Asian elephant subspecies also known as Pygmy elephants as they are the smallest elephants in the world.  Their small size suggests that they have adapted to their environment, the rainforests of the Malaysian side of Borneo.

How important is it for the general population to see elephants and be encouraged to care for them?

As an environmental and animal advocate, I feel it is very important that people learn about not only Bornean elephants but elephants worldwide.  Seeing them in person can be inspiring and motivating for people who want to get involved and protect them for future generations to appreciate.  Witnessing firsthand the beauty of these animals interacting, people will naturally want to protect them.

Our planet is becoming more and more populated and natural resources for the survival of elephant species are becoming more limited. Positive human intervention will create a new future and better outcome for the survival of these majestic ancient animals.

What first inspired you to focus your research on elephants?

With an established professional career working with Exotic and Domestic animals over the last 20 years I knew quite a lot about elephants from school. Their high intelligence and strong family bonds were always intriguing to me.  I think that when I founded Borneo Wildlife Preservation, it was the right time to give back and aid this species to the best of my ability.

What surprises you the most about what you are doing now?

The increasing interest BWP is receiving from our events in Monte Carlo is very exciting.  Each year after presentations or fundraising events we receive emails and phone calls from interested persons wanting to know more about the island of Borneo and what they can do to help aid the elephants and which I am grateful for.

Do you have any recommendations for people who want to help elephants in need?

I would urge people to donate to wildlife organizations like BWP and to get involved by just talking about these issues to others.  I recommend people read product labels and only purchase products that are sustainable to the environments where elephants live.  Many rainforests are destroyed by logging and the expansion of oil palm plantations.  One example is to only purchase sustainable palm oil products if any at all, where you see an RSPO  (Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil) logo.

Are you planning to invest in new immersive technologies like virtual reality to further reach out to your audience?

We believe at BWP that the metaverse immersive experience is a good way to distribute knowledge, education, and experience.  So yes, we will somehow sponsor camera initiatives to get more wildlife content.

For more information, contact Kat through the Borneo Wildlife Preservation website.

We thank Deniza Marcinkeviciute (International University of Monaco) for hosting the interview.

Corporate Partner Riviera Wellbeing January Newsletter - Multilingual Therapists and the Wellbeing Window

Welcome to the January 2022 Newsletter

Multilingual Therapists Join Riviera Wellbeing

I am happy to announce that Riviera Wellbeing has added two new therapists to the team. Therapy is now available to individuals and couples in English, Italian and French speaking languages.

Plans are in place to add therapists who are German, Spanish and Russian speakers. The French Riviera is home to a diverse population and these new hires recognise the region's diversity. It also recognises the explosion in demand for mental health services especially since the pandemic.

Riviera Wellbeing also intends to launch a low-cost therapy service in 2022 in line with the organisation’s philosophy that people at all income levels deserve the same access to the same therapy.

Tiga-Rose Nercessian and Sandra Vasiljevic Berset will initially work online. An increasing number of clients want to have therapy from the privacy and comfort of their homes. Research now supports online therapy is as effective as face-to-face and, in some circumstances, can be more effective.

I also hope we will expand our couples wellbeing services later this year.  More couples are coming to therapy not because something is missing but because they want more. More intimacy.  More fun.  More sex.  And why not?  This is relationship enhancement not crisis management.

In addition to our couples therapy, Riviera Wellbeing already offers couples intensives where couples come either on their own or in a small group and spend two-days with two therapists and transform the intimacy and quality of their love relationship. We take our cars in for a regular check-up, why not our relationships? Relationship enhancement and management are key to our wellbeing.

Please contact Gavin to discuss our couples wellbeing program.

Wellbeing Window
As a reminder, on the first Wednesday of the month at 09:00 (CET), I share the therapy couch with The Full English Breakfast show presenters Rob Harrison and Sarah Lycett on 106.5FM Riviera Radio.

The“Wellbeing Window”presents an opportunity for us to discuss issues related to mental health and emotional wellbeing. Tune in on the first Wednesday of the month at 09:00 CET to Riviera Radio 106.5 FM. We invite listeners to write in with any questions on the topic and I attempt to answer them on air.

Below is the podcast from January broadcast,"Healthy Boundaries/Healthy Relationships. All the shows can be found on mywebsite.

As you will see below, the next show is on February 2nd and the topic is "Living or Working With A Narcissist."

Operations will start with Pilot Centers, including the STV national performance center of Magglingen where top athletes of all disciplines receive specific training and where the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport is located. Omnia has a dedicated team in Switzerland supporting this initiative.

STV’s Central President, Mr. Fabio Corti, said: “We have studied Omnia’s fitness and wellness therapeutic devices and see its technology as strong value-added services for our Olympic athletes as well as our recreational fitness members -- and a win-win for both parties. We eagerly await the initial equipment demonstration in our Lenzburg location, followed by installations of the devices at four of our Centers which we anticipate leading to a wider long-term commercial master agreement.”

Omnia Wellness Executive Chairman, Mr. Steve Howe, said: “STV is one of the world’s premier sports organizations, and is an ideal partner to develop our advanced fitness technology in the heart of Europe. The Federation has a long history of serving the health and wellness of its athletes for over 180 years.

The Swiss athletic market is seen as a trend setter for the rest of Europe and launching our international expansion with STV allows us to build a solid foundation and reputation with customers in the region. Our EU business development efforts in 2021 have resulted in a robust pipeline we intend to execute on this year, and this is the first step.”

Platinum Nanny Tips - 10 Important Considerations that Families and Nannies Need to Discuss, Agree on, and Include in the Nanny Employment Contract

There are many reasons why it is crucial to both the hiring family and nannies that a nanny agreement be put into place upfront. Having a contract allows both the nanny and the hiring family to establish expectations, boundaries, and compensation right from the get-go, alleviating surprises or disappointment down the road for all involved parties.

The perfect match between families and candidates can be found by both parties being honest, transparent, and upfront about their requirements. To better understand what it is that they seek, families should write a list of the things that they value the most in a candidate, along with a detailed description of the job on offer. Nannies need to consider what their new role will look like to them. For example, if they are looking for a set schedule, they must avoid applying to jobs that require lots of flexibility. Consider past experiences, advantages and disadvantages, and things to avoid in future opportunities. Parties should always be open to negotiation while knowing their deal-breakers!

The Platinum Nanny “Confidentiality and Nanny Agreement”, has been designed to cover all the industry standards and legalities for Monaco and France. We support our clients by assisting in negotiations, managing the offer and agreement process, contract amendments and running the contract through our quick and efficient digital signing platform.  Here are just some of the many things that should be covered by your employment agreement:

1.    TYPE OF CONTRACT

What kind of contract is being offered? Is it an interim, temporary, or permanent role and will it be declared in Monaco, France or elsewhere? Platinum Nanny works with an administration partner who can take care of the payroll process for you.

Our Platinum Candidates are professionals and expect to be legally employed by the family. It is becoming less and less common for families to pay their nannies “cash”. Not following the legal process can result in serious tax and legal consequences for families, and withholds vital protections for your nanny, including health insurance, pension contributions, unemployment and worker’s compensation benefits. Additionally, uncontracted nannies are unable to verify their professional income and often struggle when applying for rental housing, mortgages, student, and other loans which can lead to them becoming unhappy in their role quickly, leaving families forced to replace staff which can be unsettling to children and the family as a whole.

 2.    HOURS OF SERVICE

Will there be a set hours of service each week or will the hours and days be flexible or rotate based on the needs of the family? For travel nannies will the schedule change during trips? This section also plans for sick day coverage, how additional hours and days will be handled.

 3.    PAY

This section covers guaranteed hours, expected weekly hours, overtime, annual income, hourly rates, and any bonuses. Will there be additional pay for babysitting or when travelling? Where a nanny does not accompany the family on holiday, will the family require her to work during guaranteed hours at the home to catch up on child-related tasks while they are away? Expenses whilst on duty can also be covered here as can car/mileage, if the nanny is expected to drive the children to school in her own car.

 4.    ANNUAL LEAVE

France uses an annual leave accrual system to work out an employee’s holiday entitlement. You can read more about how this works in Platinum Nanny’s article: https://platinumnanny.com/holiday-accrual-in-france-how-does-it-work/ This section is where families and nannies can agree their requirements pertaining to any holidays to be worked or not. It is also the section where the process for requesting time off for doctors’ appointments and how far in advance holidays need to be booked.

 5.    DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES

This section is critical to ensure the hiring family and employee are on the same page. The more detail, the better. For example, light housekeeping to one party might not be the same as the expectations of “light housekeeping” in another person’s mind. Make sure that specific expectations are outlined in your nanny agreement. Bullet points are great. In this portion of your agreement, you can also consider future considerations such as how the agreement will change on arrival of a new baby for example.

 6.    BENEFITS

Benefits can include use of the family’s car, wellbeing days, health club memberships, personal days, private health insurance, professional development, training courses like the Platinum Nanny Pediatric First Aid Courses for example, educational reimbursement, bonuses and any other benefits that the family may be offering.

 7.    CONFIDENTIALITY

Most of our Platinum Nanny families require anyone working in their home to agree to a form of confidentiality agreement or non-disclosure agreement. Platinum Nanny have clauses that we add to our agreements or where required we can arrange a separate more comprehensive NDA for our clients.

 8.    HOUSE RULES

When working as a nanny in someone else’s home it is important that there is a clear understanding of the house rules and how you will be required to uphold them. Examples include use of electronics, movie watching, use of the internet, any areas that are out of bounds, consumption of processed foods and confectionary, playdates, and sleepovers.

 9.    AUTHORIZATION TO TREAT

Allergies, diabetes, EpiPen’s. Common sense is a must for nannies. First Aid training is essential. Do they know how to administer an EpiPen? CPR? In order to act fast in an emergency it is important to clarify any important actions and authorizations your employee has. Accidents can happen, a broken wrist, a sprain. It is important that this section clearly spells out any steps that your employee must take where one of the charges becomes ill or is injured. Do they have the authorisation to take them to the hospital and if so, is there a specific hospital or pediatrician that needs to be on the top of the list? Who should they call and when?

 10. ANNUAL REVIEW

Will performance be reviewed quarterly, bi-annually, annually? Will there be any incremental pay increases? Will an increase awarded in one year create any entitlement in relation to subsequent years?

Although these are some of the most critical sections to include in any nanny agreement there are many other important clauses that might be relevant to an individual family’s needs. A Platinum Nanny “Confidentiality and Nanny Agreement” is tailored to each family’s needs and can help families find their Platinum Nanny, and Platinum Candidates their dream family.
